Hey guys, Ben back with another free blog. This free blog, I will be talking about the possibility of doing Vlogs instead of blogs, and how I feel about it. As you guys know, Mr. M was talking about the idea of doing Vlogs instead of blogs that we usually do, and the pros and cons of it. The pros is that it will force us to film and edit every week, but the cons are that anyone can see it, and we could get harassed by trolls that are on the internet. Now the way that I see it, doing vlogs would be a lot harder than blog, and I know Mr. M knows how much work he gives us, and what he expects from us. I think that adding a vlog to our chaotic week would be to much. I mean, why do you think I have to do my blogs over the weekend? Because I have no time in class to do it, we are always to busy. If we were to try this, I would try it next quarter since it is our PSA quarter and that isn't as difficult as our other projects. But for things like 1st and 2nd quarter where we all have 1 or two radios to do, and projects to complete, having to do film and edit a vlog is just not necessary in my book if Mr. M wants to teach us about responsibility or something.
Hey guys! Ben back with another blog. This week's blog topic is about our PSA ideas for next quarter. As you all know, there is only 4 days left of school until break, and then after break, we get straight into our PSA project since we don't have much time until it's due. I've been really focusing on our second quarter project and our radios, but I do have a really unique idea for a PSA.
Firstly, my PSA is going to be a texting and driving, or really just getting distracted by your cell phone while driving. I really wanted to do a mini Michinima. If you don't know what that is, a Machinima is the use of real-time computer graphics engines to create a cinematic production. Most often video games are used to create some kind of computer animation. What I want to do is use the video game Grand Theft Auto 5's in game editor to create a Michinima. "Rockstar Editor" as they call it, is a program in the game that allows you to record something in game by the press of a button, and then find the clip in the editor and you are able to change things like camera angles, audio, filters, and things like that. It gets so detailed people have made mini movies using it that look really cool! If you still don't get it, I'll leave a video below for it.
So the PSA is going to be in first person by the way, anyways, how the PSA is going to go is the character is driving down an empty road, so he pulls out his phone while driving. Then this text message pops up on the screen that the viewer is watching. Then a Twitter notification, then a Facebook update, and as he has his phone out, more messages and notifications fill the screen at a more rapid pace, up until the point where you can't see the road ahead of you, just all the notifications. Suddenly, you hear a loud car horn, all the notifications disappear to reveal a car right in front of you. The car... that you couldn't see... because you were preoccupied by your phone. You try to avoid it, but it's to late, you smash into the car, and the screen goes black.
Now that you got an idea of how it's going to go, why did I choose to do it? Well, the reason that I want to do this PSA in a video game is it just fits me. My 2 biggest passions are media, and video games. So putting those two together, I feel will not just make a really cool PSA, but I will also enjoy making it more. And with the editor available, as well as in game mods that will greatly help with the scene setup, I think it is more than doable. I just feel that over the years, every PSA that we make now has already been done. This is a different one, something unique and different, and I like it. Now, if you're not sure about a Michinima PSA, I'll leave another video in the bottom of a fake texting and driving PSA done using the Rockstar Editor in GTA 5. It isn't a serious one, it's a comedy. I just found it while searching for one and I thought it was goofy. (Did I just use the word "Goofy"?)
In conclusion, that is my idea for my PSA next quarter that I am looking forward to, but before I can do that, we have to finish our second quarter project that is die at the end of the week. Until then, see you guys later!

Texting And Driving PSA Comedy:
Hey guys, Ben back with another free blog, this free blog is about something that I never talked about before, and that is radios that we are doing right now! I listened to my past self about starting a week early, but the problem is no schools have their info upo that early, so we had to wait for the next week. The radios are due at the end of this week, and we have only finished Wednesday's script so far. We only have two classes this week, so we will have to finished our scripts in one class, and record in the other. I'm just hoping that we can record by Thursday, and that Dylan can finish Monday's script tomorrow, and I will be able to help him with Friday's radio script. Well, that's really all I have about radios this week, see you guys later!
Hey guys, Ben back with another blog. This week's blog is about our project, well, basically an update. And I have to say that we are still behind, yet we did get a lot done this weekend. We also ran into a few problems that I want to talk about. So lets get right into it.
First off, what did we do with our project so far? Well, we were planning on getting three interviews for this project, one approving, one opposing, and an opinion from a community member. So we got the interview with the community member a couple weeks ago, and we only got the other two this weekend. I was pulled out of school on Friday to get an interview with the approving side around lunchtime at Kauai Christian Fellowship. After we got the interview there, we headed over a couple miles away to the opposing side's home to get an interview with her. (She made us cookies too!) And her interview was very long. I was expecting a 5-10 minute interview out of 7 questions, but er wrapped it up at 28 minutes, so that's going to be a lot to transcribe.
Next, we ran into a very big problem while getting the first interview over this weekend. We were using the Sony Mics with the built in headphone jacks, so that we didn't have to bring a box, and the audio was coming through the headphones perfectly. So we filmed the whole interview, but I wanted to check on the laptop if it all looked and sounded good before we left, turns out that there was no audio, and I was very confused, we tried to fix it, we did everything we could, we even sent one of her friends to buy more batteries, which I hope wasn't to much trouble. After that, we called Mr. M to see if he knew what was wrong, and he concluded that the audio must be coming from through the headphones, but not the camera. So we had to think of something fast, Mr. M recommended that we ask the church if they had any equipment we could use since we were already there. We headed over there, and this real nice guy, I think his name was John, (I'm really bad at remembering names) he said that there was no mic he had that matched our receiver, but what he recommended was that we go on stage, use one of the mics up there, hook it up to a speaker on stage, and point it to the camera so the camera speaker could pick it up. We didn't know what to do, so we tried it. It worked fine, audio was a little soft, but I can amplify it. We thanked the person we interviewed for her time, and we thanked John for helping us, and we were off to the school to get a new mic, then back to Poipu to get the next interview.
Lastly, what are my plans for these next two weeks? Well, we have RADIOS die this week, so we need to focus on that too, I think on Tuesday, we will finish hopefully all the radio script, and I can edit them at home, and transcribe some of the interview at home. Wednesday, after school, I want to finish transcribing, and Thursday, we will record all of our radios, and will edit at home. Friday, we'll work on our script. The only time that I will be able to get B-roll is this weekend, so I guess the only choice I have is to get all the B-roll before the script is due, which shouldn't be that hard since there isn't that much B-roll you can get for a dairy farm that isn't even in operation yet.
In conclusion, that is where we are at with our projects, hopefully, we can get this done and completed, because I am really looking forward to our PSa project next quarter. Anyways, see you guys later!
