Hey guys, Ben back with another free blog, this free blog, I will be talking about our interview this weekend. So this Friday, Dylan and I headed down to Mahalapu to get an interview to get an interview with Grove Farm's spokes person. We got everything ready, and we filmed the interview. It went well, and we got some b-roll afterwards. The only problem was that it was really windy that day, and we were in the middle of a open field, so we couldn't hide behind anything, so on some points of the interview, there would be these really big gusts of wind that nearly drowned her out. I isn't so bad that we can't use it, but it just wasn't really perfect which was disappointing. I'll be transcribing it tomorrow, so we'll see how that goes. Anyways, that's all I have for this week, I'll see you guys later!
Hey guys! Ben back with another blog. This week's blog is about why we all joined media, and if we plan to stay in it. And to tell you guys straight up, I will be staying on the path of media for a while longer. So anyways, lets get into the blog.
First, why did I join media? I actually think I covered this subject a couple months ago in a free blog, so I guess I'll cover it again. I joined media in 6th grade just because my mom recommended it. I had no idea why she did, she just did one day. So I took it. When I joined, I had very little interest toward media in general, but that changed over the years. I made friends in media, and I got to make 2 videos that I wanted to. But over the years, I have found media very interesting. Up to the point that I want to pursue it as a career. I'm not the best at filming, or transcribing, or script making, but what I really enjoy is editing, so that is what I want to pursue in life as a career. I understand that what we edit now is nothing close to what I'll be editing if I get the job, but I enjoy it, so I want to see where I go with it. Next, whey did I stay in media? Well, like I said, I grew a passion for it. That is one of the main reasons why. But also because of what we do in media, I am not that big of a fan with having to make two news story a year, since that doesn't interest me, but I do find it fun to make short videos that I want to make, where I can use my creativity. that's why I like 3rd and 4th quarter. But also because of the people in media. I've made friends over the past two years, and yes, some of them did leave, but this year, I have made more friends. Friends that if it wasn't for media, I would have never even met them. And of course, our equipment. Equipment isn't the only reason I joined, but it is awesome to be using top of the line stuff that cost so much money. Lastly, what will I be doing after middle school? After middle school, when we all move up to high school, I will still hope to continue media, but not all 4 years. My plan is to take media the first two years in high school to get everything I need to learn down, and then the last two years, I know how much more work I will be getting, so I feel that with all the work and media on top of it, I will be overwhelmed in work. But I do hope to take classes in media is college and eventually get a job in editing. In conclusion, that is why I joined media, stayed it media, and what I will be doing in the years to come. I am looking forward to reading your guy's blogs to see what you said. But anyways, see you guys later! Hey guys, Ben back with another blog, this week's blog, I will be talking about practicing, and something that I had to practice to get good at. This blog topic is pretty similar to the "Practice Makes Perfect" blog I wrote not to long ago, so I won't be talking about gaming this time. Instead, I will be talking about how I had to practice in Media over the past 3 years, and I still haven't even learned near everything.
First, I had to learn about teaching a partner. In my first year as a 6th grader, my partner was B en Brady, and he taught me how to do things for the next year. He did a good job for his first time actually teaching someone, and I got a lot out of him. The second year was my first time teaching a partner, and my partner was Tristen Otsubo. We didn't get a long very well that year, mainly because he wouldn't listen to me when I was teaching him stuff, and then complained that I never taught him anything when I ask him to do work. That brings us to this year, and my partner now is Dylan, who you all know. Dylan is a great partner, he listens to me, he does work when I ask him to, and we get a laugh out of each other every now an again. So I think that over the years, I've learned to listen to people, and be prepared to take someone under my wing when I need to. Next, I had to practice with doing interviews. Some people think interviews are just pointing a camera at someone and filming. And that's what I thought when I first started. But I learned that that's not it at all. There is a whole lot that I had to learn, and am still practicing today. Things like rule of thirds, lighting, audio, backgrounds, mic cable, glasses, and much more. I recently made the mistake is my last news story with lighting, and how I forgot to change the lighting settings, so I ended up getting this weird blue tint in some shots. Live and learn I guess. Lastly, I had to practice editing over the years. When I first started, I knew very little about editing. I really only knew how to click and drag clips together. But, editing over and over again, I've learned a lot, and grew a passion for it. That is why I want to continue editing into and out of college. I've learned how to match audio, transitions, adding text, green screen effects, animation, and a lot more. Currently, I am experimenting with color matching and balancing to give clips a bit more "pop" in color. In conclusion, I've had to practice in media a lot over the span of 3 years. I've practiced teaching people, filing interviews, editing, and a lot more useful tricks. I am looking forward to see how you guys did at your first STN practice because sadly, I am not going. Anyways, see you guys later! Hey guys, Ben back with another free blog. This week's free blog is going to be about Rocketjump Film School. Now, maybe you've heard of Rocketjump before. They made short films every week for like 5 years until they recently moved on to the bigger stuff. They have made a few seasons of their hit show, "Video Game High School" Great show, I would watch it if I were you, just search it on YouTube or Netflix. Anyways, they recently made a second channel called Rocketjump Film School, where they teach all their viewers about film production. To lighting and camera, to editing and writing. They want to cover it all. Although most of it is for the pros out there with their "How to cast auditions" and "How to write a script" videos. There are also discussion videos like their "Office Hours" series and their "Computer Generated Images (CGI)" video. What I like to watch their videos on editing tips and tricks. Because they are pretty brilliant. This channel is really for those who want to take on film production after college, and this channel is a great place to start. Anyways, see you guys next blog! Bye! Rocketjump: https://www.youtube.com/user/freddiew Rocketjump Film School: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3KpzBeoM8lDvn85m4szzfA Hey guys, Ben back with another blog. This weeks blog is about teasing. Now, my view on teasing is... different, I would say. You see, teasing to me is perfectly fine. "Joking" as they call it. And I think everyone does this. It's okay for some people, and for some other people you hate it when they want to "Joke" with you, and I still find that a mystery. But for everyone, no matter who it is, there is always that line and is just waiting to be crossed. And when it does get crossed, you best bet you won't forget it.
Okay, so the first side of teasing is the friendly side. The side that we all know and love. The side where we joke with friends and we usually end the conversation with a laugh. The side where we say what we want and no one gets offended. Or so we think. The first side has it's flaws. While most people just laugh it off like it is nothing, there are those sensitive people and act like it's nothing, but deep down, it hurts. I know it sounds cliche, but it's true. Now, the reason that they don;t speak up about it is because they see how everyone their joking with, it taking it fine. Maybe the person knew the guys for a long time, and don't think it is necessary to speak up, or is afraid to. They might get hit with the classic, "Why can't you take a joke?" or "I was just kidding dude!" or "What a sissy." And that only makes the situation worse. The next form of teasing is from someone that you plainly don't like. These people say the same things that your friends say, but they mean it to offend you. And for some people it does, and others have that "Haters going to hate" attitude. Here's the catch, for few people, they take offense from what their enemies say, but it doesn't stop there. Depending on what the insult was, usually about their appearance, they don't take a lot of offence originally, but when they go to their friends, and they start joking about the same subject, the victim might think that what the bully was saying was true, because his/her friends are talking about the same thing. This can lead to some dark thoughts, deep depression, and maybe even suicide. So you can see that teasing can go a long way for some people. Lastly, I want to talk about me. Have I taken teasing the wrong way before? Yes. Have I teased others a bit extremely before? Yes. Have I ever been in deep depression before? Yes. But do I let it keep me down? No. Look, life isn't perfect, and you can't please everyone. Others might feed off of you for your looks, personality, hobbies, ext. But nothing determines you, other than you. And if you let other opinions about yourself change and mold you, which I have seen, then that's something that's your choice. But all i can really say is to be yourself. Maybe others might not like you for yourself, maybe they think you're to "weird." Well, everyone's weird in their own way, there is no "normal." If everyone was "normal," the world would be very boring. Let you determine you. In conclusion, those my thoughts on teasing, I am guessing you're perspective on teasing is different than mines, so I am looking forward to reading that. Until next time, I'll see you guys later. Hey guys, Ben back with another blog. This weeks free blog is about my project, and where we stand in the progress of it. So to say it straight up, we are behind. Interviews were DUE last Friday, and we haven't gotten one yet. We have scheduled one for this weekend and the weekend after that, but other than that, I really don't know. I am hoping to get an interview this Wednesday since we have school off, but only time can tell. So far we have scheduled and interview with Friends of Malalepu and a representative from Grove Farm. So, that's really where we stand in our project, I bet you all are ahead of us that that is understood, anyways, see you guys later!
Hey guys! Ben back with another blog. This blog I will be writing about today is about my most favorite trip. Out of the very few trips I've gone on in my life, the best one I went on was very recently, last summer. My family and I gent to Idaho, so here are three reason why that was my favorite.
This first reason why my trip to Idaho was my favorite was because before we went to Idaho, we stayed in Seattle. Our plan was to spend a couple days in Seattle, then drive to Idaho which would take 10 hours. While we were there, we went to almost every cool place there. We went to Pike's Place, where they have the first ever Starbucks, (The line was way to long to sit through) of course, the Space Needle, the Aquarium, the Museum of art, and a bunch of other places. We stayed at a hotel a couple miles away from everything which was right next to a Denny's so we got some good breakfast every morning. Another reason why it was really fun was because after the 10 hour drive across state, we finally made it to the Northern Idaho town of Sandpoint. Sandpoint is one of those towns where everything you need is there, it's really old fashion in some parts, and for some reason everyone rides bikes. But just near a mile out of the town there's all the big stores. Home Depot, Target, and I think Costco was there. They even have a beach which is connected to a huge lake right outside of town. We rode our bikes there every day. We stayed there for a week or so, just in time for the 4th of July where they had a huge firework show at the beach and we got to do our own fireworks later. (Fireworks are really expensive there too!) I think that is where I would like to live when I grow up just because of how nice it is and because it's where my mom grew up. But the amount of spiders there might be a deal breaker. They're huge! The last reason that was the best trip I went on was because they have a amusement park. That's right! Just near a 30 minute drive out of town, they have a huge amusement park/water park called Silverwood. We went there once since it's expensive to get in. The amusement park was fun but they only really had big roller coasters there which I've never been a big fan of. But the part that I really liked was the Water park. The water park had 4 parts, this giant play structure thing with water guns, and slides, and this big bucket that looked to fill with dozens of gallons of water, and when it filled to the brim, it tipped over on everyone below. The next park was the lazy river, where it's a long river that laps around. It goes really slow and there's a lot of tubes and stuff to ride. The 3rd part is the wave pool which is this big pool, where in the very back, generate waves somehow that makes it really fun, and the last part is the big water slides. In conclusion, that was the best and funnest trip I've ever went on. I am looking forward to reading your guy's blogs to see where you guys went in your life. Anyways, I'll see you guys later. Hey guys, Ben back with another free blog. This week's free blog is about the new Fallout 4 trailer "Wanderer." Now, if you don't know what the Fallout series is, it's basically a video game where it takes place 200 years after a Nuclear War that happened in the 1950s. Some people died, others found shelter in "Vaults," and others got a worse fate than death. All the radiation from the blast has mutated humans and animals into horrible creatures that have lost the ability to think straight. So you as a player, leave one of the vaults and survive in a nuclear wasteland. I could go a lot more into detail about the setting, and why you had to leave the safety of a vault, but I'm not going to. Anyways, in the trailer, I wasn't only pumped for the new game since the last Fallout game was in 2012, but the video really stood out to me. I liked how the video fit the beat of the music, and how there were some interesting shots like that smooth close up of the guy getting into the Power Armor. I also liked how when they picked the music, they picked one that matched the concept of the game and how the who purpose of the game is to wander around the wasteland and see what you get into. New people to meet, new places to discover, and new enemies to fight. Hey guys, Ben back with another blog. Before I start this blog, I just wanted to ask, how was Halloween for you guys? Me personally, it went great. I have a pile of candy right next to my computer and a lollipop in my mouth as I write this. Anyways, this weeks blog is about my project. More to the point, am I behind, on schedule, or ahead? Well, I can say right now that we are technically behind. And I will give you three reasons why.
My first reason is because based on the schedule of when certain things are due leading up to the project, we are behind. According to that, ALL interviews should be done by this Friday, and we haven't got one get. We have scheduled one for sometime around the 17th (I know, shes on a business trip) But other than that, we got nothing. Hopefully Dylan did what I asked and got us an interview for this weekend, but we'll just have to see. Another reason I feel we are behind is because of how bi our project is. When I presented our idea to Mr. M, he spoke about how hard this could be to pull off, and I agree, that's why I hesitated on doing it. He said on how we'll have to evenly present both sides, which means more interviews, and how with everything put together, this could be a 3 - 4 minute video. So cramming all that into 2 months could be difficult. Lastly, I wanted to talk about my plans for this project. Like every project, my "plan" never really goes accordingly, but I'll throw it out there anyways. So what I'm hoping to do is get an interview or two this weekend, transcribe both of them, maybe build part of the script, then, get the last interview, transcribe that, fill in the rest of the script. Then film B-roll that weekend. After we finish that, we edit everything together and boom! A video is born. Pretty simple but I hope it works. In conclusion, that is where I feel are at with our project, I am looking forward to reading your guy's blogs really just to see where all you guys are at and see if I am all alone here. Well, looks like we'll have to find out. |
